| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Due to the progress of globalization, how to develop intercultural competence has become a significant issue in order to function effectively in a multicultural society. Through looking at“Japaneseness” or what is to be a Japanese, this paper aims to explore how intercultural educational practices in higher education can be designed to enhance the intercultural competence. This study consists of two parts: theoretical discussion and its practical application and develops three types of practices: ①classroom units and activities, ②intercultural projects, and ③overseas experiential study programs.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究の学術的意義や社会的意義は、以下の3点が挙げられる。第一に、重要であるにもかかわらず、日本において研究の進んでいない異文化間能力研究に着手した。第二に、異文化間能力の国際的な動向を明らかにするとともに、米の人種理論研究の一つの潮流である白人性研究を基礎とした日本人性の概念に基づき日本の文脈において異文化間能力を定義した。第三に、そうした異文化間能力の定義に従い教育プログラムのデザインを構想し、大学教育において実践を行い、その開発事例を提示した。
