Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本申請研究は、ミツバチの尻振りダンスで符号化された蜜源の方向情報を、情報受信者である追従蜂がどのように検出し、その情報を脳内でどのように解読するのかを調べるものである。昨年度の研究では、追従バチはダンサーの位置を両側触角にある梗節により検出し、追従を発現し、一連の尻振り相への連続追従を持続し、屋外への採餌に出巣することを実験的に示した。しかし、連続追従において追従バチがダンサーに定位しているのかは不明であった。そこで今年度は、尻振り相におけるダンサーへの定位に影響が出る被覆箇所はどこなのかを調べた。
ダンサーは尻振り相の間、歩行により前方に移動するため、追従バチがダンサーの前方と側方から追従し、定位を続けた場合、ダンサーの体軸と追従バチの直進方向の間の角度(追従角度)が減少する。しかし、片側触角の鞭節先端、中央、梗節を局所被覆した群はいずれも、尻振り相における追従角度の減少が見られなかった。また、被覆した触角と同側の追従と反対側の追従でこの追従角度の減少は見られなかった。これらの結果から、尻振りダンス中のダンサーへの定位には、片側触角からの入力だけでは生じないこと、梗節のみならず触角の他の部位からの入力によっても引き起こされることが分かった。
さらに、触角被覆を行う羽化後の時期によって、追従行動への影響が異なることもわかってきた。これは、ダンス追従を含む巣内経験の過程で、ダンサー検出のために、梗節以外の複数の触角感覚入力を利用できるよう発達した可能性を示唆する。

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.

Reason

令和2年度は、観察巣箱を用いたミツバチの巣内、巣外行動の自動モニタリングシステム(Ai and Takahashi, 2021) を用いて、追従バチのダンサーへの定位行動とその後の採餌行動の関連性を詳細に調べることができたが、ダンスで符号化された蜜源の情報が追従バチの脳内でどのように解読されているのかについては、新型コロナ感染予防のため、神戸大学の佐倉氏、岡田氏を福岡大学の招聘することができず、実験装置の作成が大幅に遅れてしまっている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

福岡大学で設置を予定していた偏光刺激に対するミツバチの定位行動の実験装置の作成は、新型コロナ感染予防のため停止している。緊急事態宣言が終了した後、神戸大学の佐倉氏、岡田氏を福岡大学に招聘し、早急に構築を進める。この装置を利用することで、両側梗節を含む触角からの入力がダンスに符号化されたベクトル方向の検出にも役立っているかを行動学的に調べる。さらに、両側ジョンストン器官への振動入力がどのようにダンサーに知覚されているのかを電気生理学的に調べる必要がある。脳内で両側梗節振動入力を処理する候補介在ニューロンはすでに同定しているので、今後はそれらニューロンの振動統合機構に焦点を当てて電気生理学的な解析を進める。
