| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study was to explore the lives of persons with disabilities in rural area of Karen state of Myanmar after the civil war. We implemented quantitative study to visit 1895 household in 10 villages of the state, and qualitative study to have interviews with 10 persons with disabilities and their families in the area. Our quantitative study revealed “Significant limitation of education/job for persons with disabilities” ”Use of alternative resources by persons with disabilities, such as religion and refugees camp” and “Severer limitation for women with disabilities than men with disabilities, and lack of self -recognitions”. Qualitative study revealed “Relatives as safety-nets” “Thailand as livelihood resources” “Ambivalent relationship with neighbors” and “Religion as multiple support resources”.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
紛争による障害者など社会的弱者の生活への影響については先行研究が稀であり、本研究は、ミャンマー・カレン州農村部という限定的かつ事例的な範囲ではあるが、その基礎データを提供し、この分野において先鞭の1つとなる研究として学術的な意義があると言える。
また、今回の生活実態に関する調査結果から、今後の支援の方向性として「障害女性のための取り組み」「近隣住民への働きかけ」「宗教資源との連携」「多彩な選択肢の維持」などの必要性が明らかになったことは、紛争下の障害者など社会的弱者への支援の有効性に資するものとして社会的な意義があると考えられる。
