| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The study examined the interpretation and application of legal provisions on the prevention and reduction of statelessness provided under the Nationality Act on Japan, from a child rights perspective and comparative perspective, with the following research findings. Firstly, it clarified the interpretative guidelines of the relevant articles of international human rights treaties. Secondly, through the field research from a comparative legal perspective, the significance to establish a statelessness recognition procedure and its challenges were ascertained. Furthermore, during the implementation period of this research project, the world encountered emergency situations such as the spread of the coronavirus - COVID-19 - and witnessed the outbreak of international conflicts. The study found new issues under such emergency situations. These research outcomes were presented at international conferences and published in academic articles and other forms of publications.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究の目的は、上記の通り、日本の国籍法における無国籍の発生防止及び削減に関する規定（第2条第3号及び第8条第4号）の解釈・適用のあり方、とりわけ無国籍の発生防止及び削減のための無国籍認定について、子どもの権利保障及び比較法的観点から検討することである。その研究成果は、日本をはじめ、世界における「子どもの無国籍問題」の解消に資するとの社会的意義がある。また、本研究は、子どもの権利保障の観点から検討している点、国際人権諸条約の国内的実施ないし国内法適用の際の解釈指針を示している点において、学術的意義があるといえる。さらに、緊急事態における新たな研究課題を見出し、今後の研究の深化を期待できる。
