Research Abstract

ルネサンス以降、人間の感性と理性が分離するとともに、二つの知的系譜(文系と理系)に世界は分裂していった。この分裂はF・ベーコンによって決定的になった。他方、感性と理性の統合を目指す動きもまた存在した。その第一はレオナルドであり、第二は魔術的・錬金術的運動である。レオナルドが、自然は完全には探究しがたいと信じていたのに対して、錬金術師たちは、太陽の生命力(プリマ・マテリア)を抽出しようと無駄な努力を重ねた。ニュートンもじつは錬金術的な伝統の継承者である。本研究は、若い頃、錬金術の研究に傾倒していたゲーテが、やがてレオナルド的な立場に立ち、ニュートン的・ベーコン的な近代科学の批判こそ自らの使命だと考えるようになった経緯を明らかにしている。
