Research Abstract |
In this study, after establishing patterns of community formation among Indonesian resident workers, we administered 100 OPI's (OPI=Oral Proficiency Interview) to members of this community. The results showed that only 5% of them had intermediate or higher proficiency. To find the reasons, we studied their life histories, and found some factors, promoting Japanese language acquisition. A control study, held in Korea, showed similar results.
