Research Abstract |
The purpose of the research is ; that 1) to elucidate what childbirth experience of mother causing Post-traumatic stress is ; 2) to propose preventive measures to deal with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) of mother after birth designed by views of nursing. The study is possible to lead mothers to secure childcare with confidence and to decide to have pregnancy and birth again. As a result, two types of mothers, which mothers are higher post-traumatic experiences during one month after birth and high-risk PTSD with healthy new-borns/mothers of new-borns in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), have the common characteristics of fear and a distressful experience, such as "Threat to life of the mother", "Intolerable Pain", and "Deterioration of mother's health". Both mothers of healthy new-borns and mother with low-risk of PTSD receive experience of their birth positively, such as "Self-confidence and sense of fulfilment by overcoming labour" and "Sense of security and pleasure led to support reliable nursing staff, doctors and families by the mothers". Several mothers of babies in NICU show sense of security and motivation due to anticipated explanation by doctors, more nursing care and medical professions consulting if anything support the family. Moreover, there is no significant difference with regard to these above sense of security and motivation. Six month after the mothers holding PTSD at the time of birth show 2.9%(n=174) comparing with mother having a healthy new-borns ; and also mothers of a baby in NICU show 3.6%(n=111) comparing with mother having a healthy new-borns.In conclusion, it is important preventive care for mothers to avoid traumatic experience, to accomplish early detection both traumatic experience and appearance symptoms of PTSD, and to provide on-going care owing to assessment of mother's responses.
