Research Abstract

遺伝情報の発現は、"エピジェネティクス"と呼ばれるDNAとヒストンなどのタンパク質から構成されるクロマチンの化学的、構造的な修飾による制御を受けており、これは発生の過程で確立され、その後細胞の記憶として働く。本研究では、このエピジェネティクスの主要な制御因子であるクロマチンの化学修飾を制御する新規のヒストン脱メチル化酵素の同定に成功した。そして、この酵素の機能解析により、遺伝子のサイレンシングに関与する複数のメチル基からの脱メチル化を触媒するという基質特異性を持つこと及び脊椎動物において発生過程における脳形成に関与していることを明らかにした。
