Research Abstract

深海熱水環境の優占微生物であるイプシロンプロテオバクテリアの硫黄代謝経路について種々の解析を行い、この菌が複数の硫黄代謝経路を同時に利用していることを明らかにした。
これらの代謝の鍵酵素の基質はポリスルフィドなどの水溶性化合物であるため不溶性の元素状硫黄に直接作用するタンパク質をさらに追跡したところスルフィドキノン還元酵素(SQR)様タンパク質が精製された。
水に不溶な元素状硫黄を効率的に代謝径路に取り込み、そこからエネルギーを取り出すモデルを構築できた。
