Research Abstract |
We introduced a strategic state-of-the-art concept into our solid state chemistry and sought new functional materials and new functional phenonena. During our research project, we found new materials such as oxide materials showing large negative thermal expansion and new phenomena like large magnetoresistance in silicon. We also revealed the mechanisms of new functional properties by analyzing the nano-size structures of the materials with synchrotron X-ray and high-resolution electron microscopy techniques, and by calculating electronic structures from the first principle calculations. The materials developed in our study will be useful for future information-technology society.
