| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究は，古文書などの料紙の科学研究方法の標準化，科学研究データの共有管理システム構築，研究データ共有管理システムを用いた科学研究コミュニティの形成，という3つを実施，「国際古文書料紙学」の確立を行う。科学研究方法の標準化は，古文書の分類と料紙の構成物との対象比較による料紙の質的解析，製紙材料のDNA分析の結果を検討することにより達成される。研究データ共有管理システム構築は，データの標準化を実践，国際標準の機能に対応した情報基盤を構築する。さらに，各所属機関のデータベースや情報基盤と連携，研究成果と接続し公開することにより，「オープンサイエンスの時代に合わせた料紙の国際標準基盤」を提示する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study investigated the paper used in historical materials and presented a practical model for the advancement of multifaceted and integrated studies of historical materials and the development of ‘International Research on Historical Paper Materials’. To this end, this study analysed fibres and paper additives used in historical materials, identified their origins based on botanical features and genome information, and developed a system for the standardisation of scientific methods through shared management of research data. As a result, we were able (1) to establish methodologies of scientific analysis for exploring the production and distribution of historical materials, local characteristics, and their historical transition; (2) to identify clues to local characteristics in historical materials based on genome information; and (3) to develop a management tool for microscopic images and for sharing and connecting research data to the information infrastructure.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究では，古文書料紙の生産・流通や地域的特性，歴史的変遷を探るための科学分析の方法論を確立し，現生の植物ゲノム情報から料紙素材の地域的特性に関する手がかりを取り出すとともに，顕微鏡画像管理ツールの開発，情報基盤との研究データの共有化・連結化を試行した。これらの成果は，古文書の科学研究への理解醸成を進める点で学術的意義がある。さらに，調査・分析の基礎的な情報を紹介した史料調査ハンドブック，および自然科学的な観点を導入した古文書研究入門の書籍を作成・出版した。これらは，紙を素材とする歴史資料の修理・保存，災害対策の実践的な技術提供につながる成果発信・普及であり，本研究成果の社会的意義といえる。
