| Outline of Research at the Start |
非認知能力やコンピテンシーと呼ばれる社会的能力の長期的影響力を探ることを目的とする。まず、それが小中義務教育期間、高等学校、大学という各学校段階で育成され成績等に影響を及ぼすメカニズムをできるだけ精度の高いデータを収集し分析する。次に、それらの結果を繋ぎ社会的能力が学校段階を跨いで影響を及ぼしていること、さらに社会に出てからの就業にも影響していることを検証する。このため、各教育段階において、個別の生徒・学生を入学当初から卒業まで追跡調査したパネルデータを独自に構築する。また、推定は複雑な構造となるために、すでに応用が進んだ統計手法だけでなくAIを応用した分析も試みる。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We analyzed the mechanisms by which social competencies, called non-cognitive abilities, are developed and they influence school performance at each stage of education: elementary, secondary, high school and university.
We constructed panel data for each educational stage by tracing students from enrollment. For the analysis, we applied structural equation modeling, panel data analysis, and other methods. The results revealed that developing social competencies is a complex and highly variable process, strongly influenced by several determinants and the environment of students. Additionally, the impact of social competencies on academic performance also varies across subjects and grades, and is not consistently observed.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
これまで社会的能力が育成される過程やその水準を決定する要因の分析は十分に行われてこなかった。本研究は、それらの解明を試みた点に主な学術的価値がある。また、社会的能力と学修成果の間の双方向の因果関係や学校内外の活動状況も考慮し、かつ、ラグをおいて影響が生じるプロセスの分析も行なった点も新しい。分析は、社会的能力そのものが大きく変動することや生徒・学生の置かれている環境に強い影響を受け変動することを明らかにした。また、教育段階や学年による変化を示したことにより、どの教育段階でどのような能力が成長するのかを判断するための参考となる情報を提供した点に社会的意義がある。
