Outline of Research at the Start

世界の子供の死因第2位は下痢であり，サニテーションの不備はその主因とされる。しかし，実際のサニテーション導入案件では下痢の減少効果が有意に出ないことも多く，その効果の定量化・モデル化は実現できていない。本研究はサブサハラ・アフリカの都市スラムを対象とし，ヒト糞便の拡散・曝露とサニテーションの下痢低減効果のモデル化，およびサニテーションの効果が顕在化する普及条件を検証する。さらに，モデルを簡易化し，住民自らが簡易に測定する衛生環境データに基づき，多様な経路からの糞便の曝露を視覚的・直感的に提示することで，衛生改善策の主体的な策定が可能な新しい参加型サニテーション・プランニングの方法論を提案する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究ではサブサハラ・アフリカの都市スラムを対象とし，ヒト糞便の拡散・曝露とサニテーションの下痢低減効果のモデル化を行い，都市スラムでの拡散・曝露特性を明らかにするとともに，住民自らが生活環境の簡便な糞便汚染検査を実施し，多様な経路からの糞便の曝露を視覚的・直感的に提示することで，衛生改善策の主体的な策定が可能な新しい参加型サニテーション・プランニングの方法論の実現性を検証することをその目的とした。最近もコレラが発生した一方，治安の面から調査可能なザンビアのルサカを主フィールドとし，過年度の成果を援用しつつ，下記を行った。まず，トイレ・廃棄物管理の定性的条件と飲料水・台所用品の糞便汚染レベルとの定量的な関係を一般化線形混合モデルとして統計モデル化することで，糞便の伝播・拡散に与える影響について解析し，この成果を論文として出版した。また，大腸菌濃度データによる生活環境の広範な糞便汚染の理解に合わせ，下痢を起こしうる病原性微生物に生活環境が広範に汚染されている実態を定量的に明らかにし，その成果を論文として出版した。さらに，アクションリサーチの範囲を，住民自らによる衛生環境の簡易測定，生活環境の汚染度の可視化と理解，曝露シナリオ設定および曝露解析，および対策の検討までとし，これを住民が主体的に実践するための支援アプリを昨年度のバージョンから改良した。改良版のアプリを住民が仮使用し，そのフィードバックを受けた。これより，アプリの支援を受けて住民が主体的に実践するアクションリサーチの実現可能性を確認した。以上より，サブサハラ・アフリカ都市スラム特有の糞便の拡散・曝露，病原性微生物の広範な汚染の特徴を明らかにしたとともに，多様な経路からの糞便曝露を視覚的・直感的に提示する新しい参加型サニテーション・プランニングの方法論の実現性を示すことができた。
