Outline of Research at the Start

これまでの放射性セシウムの動態研究に欠けていた「個体レベル」の動態解析を、新規に開発したポジトロン放出核種Cs-127(半減期:6.25時間)を用いた非破壊イメージングにより実現する。具体的には、生きた作物(ダイズ)と樹木(リンゴやスギ等)におけるセシウム動態を非破壊的に可視化し、子実へのセシウム輸送メカニズムの解明と樹体内のセシウム動態モデルの構築を行う。さらに、Cs-127を生きた動物(ラット)に経口投与し、ポジトロン断層法(PET)を用いてセシウムの3次元動態を非破壊的にリアルタイムで可視化し、各臓器への移行速度を算出することで、放射性セシウムによる内部被ばく線量の正確な評価に資する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Non-destructive imaging of radiocaesium (rCs) dynamics in living plants and animals has been carried out using the positron-emitting radionuclide Cs-127. Cs-127 was administered to soybean roots and the behavior of rCs in the rhizoids was visualized, showing that rCs is sequestered in the rhizoids. Visualization of the transdermal absorption of rCs in apple showed that the amount transferred to the shoot side was higher than that to the main stem side. The clearance of several organs was assessed using rCs dynamics in rat imaged with a PET scanner, and the results for the kidney, heart and small intestine were in agreement with the predictions of the conventional ICRP pharmacokinetic model, but differed for the liver and large intestine.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究により、ポジトロン放出核種Cs-127を用いた非破壊的イメージングが、生きた動植物体内におけるセシウム動態の解析に有用であることが示された。本研究で明らかにされた、ダイズやヒメリンゴなどの作物におけるセシウムの貯留や、新芽側への移行量の高さなどの知見は、作物栽培におけるセシウム汚染対策に役立つことが期待される。さらに、PETイメージングを用いた臓器クリアランスの評価により、従来のICRP体内動態モデルにおける肝臓や大腸の予測が異なることが判明したことから、放射性物質の内部被ばく評価のより正確な予測において、Cs-127を用いたイメージング技術が貢献できることが示された。
