本研究は、聖書的・教父的伝統を有する神化思想（Theosis）が、14世キリスト教霊性史においてどのように受容され展開したかを、主に、エックハルトと、その弟子ゾイゼのテキストに基づいて明らかにする。西方キリスト教における神化思想の伝統の忘却が、エックハルト研究に致命的な欠陥をもたらしたという問題認識に立ちつつ、本研究では、エックハルトとその弟子ゾイゼのテキストを中心に、14世紀西方キリスト教世界において、どのように神化思想の伝統が脈々と受容され、いかなる思想展開を遂げたのかを解明する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The history of Christianity and philosophy have condemned and negated both Suso and Eckhart. According to Eckhart and Suso, who have been forgotten for centuries, Being, Intellect, and the One are all in their innermost reality nothing other than divine giving and receiving birth, and in this sense "life" and "birth" must be held to be the most fundamental concepts of Eckhart. As Eckhart states based on the Scriptures and the Church Fathers, the energeia of divine essence is nothing other than birth, or giving birth. The birth of God in the soul is the most important expression of gratitude and faith in Christ's incarnational salvation, and derives from the tradition of deification developed by the Church Fathers.

本研究は宗教交流の場を拓く。エックハルトが説く「魂における神の誕生」によれば、人間はみな、父なる神から生まれた兄弟姉妹であり、父の胎内的生において、ともにいのちと愛を感じ、ともに生きることができる。これは旧約聖書における神の憐れみ、慈しみを示すヘブライ語に「ラハミーム」―母の胎、子宮も意味する語―、および、新約聖書のギリシア語の「スプランクニゾマイ」―同じように体内・胎内的言葉―で語られる父なる神の無償の愛とあわれみに通じる。この宗教霊性は「如来蔵」（タターガタ・ガルバ）―「如来の胎」という意味―で説かれる如来の胎内的生に比せられる。また神化思想にかんして東方キリスト教との相互理解を拓く。
