| Outline of Research at the Start |
江戸時代の出版の前提となった出版法制について、これまで確認されたことのなかった日本全域における出版法制の把握を試み、その概括的把握見通しを立てる。そして、江戸時代の出版動向とそれらがどのような関係を持っていたかについて実証的見通しを立てる。その際には実際に禁止された禁書に着目した考察をも行う。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The main and most important results of the reseach are the foloowing: Proof that the shogunate in the Edo peiod did not usually announce the publishing regulations to the feudal domains(藩),and that the Machibure(town orders)Shuseis are more reliable than "Ofuregaki Shusei" (The collection of laws and regulations compiled by the shogunate), by proving the absence of a publishing ordenance in the Kansei Reforms in "Ofuregaki Shusei".

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
これまで、証明ぬきに行われてきた、江戸幕府出版法が日本全域で共有されているという認識をくつがえして、江戸幕府出版法のほとんどが、あくまでも江戸は江戸、京都は京都、大阪は大阪で発令された、各都市の法令にすぎなかったであろうことを明らかにし、この分野における歴史認識を変更した。また、江戸幕府評定所編纂の幕府法令集という権威ある『御触書集成』にも後代の編纂物という限界があり、編集ミスがふくまれるということをはっきりさせ、寛政の改革中の出版法令を一つ、存在しなかったものとして消去した。寛政の改革の出版政策についての考察にも、そのことをふまえた修正が必要となる。
