日本語母語話者の誤用例の「ら抜き言葉」は多くの言語研究者たちによって合理的な言語変化であると擁護されてきた。しかし、近年のインターネット上の言説や刊行物の書き言葉の中に「ら抜き言葉」の進行した形態の〈れれる言葉〉や〈ら入れ言葉〉など、現代日本語の先端的な動向を示す例が観察されるようになった。また、「ら抜き言葉」には可能の意味以外に受身・尊敬の用法が発生している。過去の言語研究者たちが「ら抜き言葉」を可能表現専用であると擁護した根拠は消滅したのである。
本研究は、現代日本語の先端的な動向を捉え、現代日本語にいま起きている母語話者の誤用を体系化し、日本語の言語史の中に位置づけるものである。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We viewed the problem of misuse by native Japanese speakers as a cutting-edge change in the Japanese language. We extracted many specific examples of cutting-edge changes in modern Japanese and analyzed their trends. We investigated open corpora, Internet discourse, and written language in publications. We clarified the actual usage of ``retasu words '' ``rereru words'' and ``raire words'' which are further changes from ``ra-nuki words.'' We also investigated morphological changes that have not been mentioned before, such as ``adjectives (itasu words),'' and clarified their usage.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究によって、日本語母語話者の誤用問題と、現代日本語の先端的な動向の問題とを日本語の通時論として結びつけることが可能となり、日本語学にあらたな研究分野を開拓するという学術的意義を得ることができた。「ら抜き言葉」はこれまで多くの日本語学研究者によって“五段活用動詞から派生した可能動詞が他の活用の動詞に拡大したもので可能表現に特化した日本語の合理的な変化である”として評価されていた感があるが、本研究では、「ら抜き言葉」は日本語の動詞・助動詞がエ段型の活用に同化されていく現象のごく一部でしかなく、母語話者の御用問題が日本語文法の根底的変化の証左であることを明らかにしたという点で社会的意義がある。
