| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究では，シリアに留まり日本語を学び続ける日本語学習者，海外に難民，移民として移住したシリア出身の日本語学習者の日本語学習環境の実態とアイデンティティ形成過程を明らかにしていく。これらを総合的に考察した上で，内戦状況下にある日本語学習者のための支援方略を構築することを目指す。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The study conducted interviews to Syrian Japanese language learners 1) who had stayed in Syria and continued learning Japanese language, 2) who had moved to Europe and other Middle East countries as refugee, and 3) who had visited Japan as foreign student first, and got settled in Japan thereafter. The study found that those Syrian Japanese language learners had developed plurilingual/ pluricultural sense at their own settled countries, and Japanese language had huge impact on their sense. For those who took refuge in Europe and the Middle
East, Japanese language consisted of a part of their own purpose of existence and identity. The study also illustrated the challenge to the Syrian Japanese language learners on heritage language education and foreign language education to their second-generation who had been unfamiliar to Syria.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
日本語教育の分野において、移民や難民として移動する人々と日本語の関係、個々人の多様性に踏み込んで考察された研究は少ない。
本研究は、インタビューを通して、マスメディアや従来の研究では伝えきれないミクロレベルでのシリアの人々の現在を捉えたものである。個々人の日本語コミュニティ形成過程やアイデンティティの動態を明らかにしようとすることは、独裁体制下のシリアでは非常に難しく、また実施自体が珍しいものであった。これは、申請者がこれまでのシリアでの日本語教育活動や研究調査を通して築いてきた関係性があるからこそ実施可能な調査であり、本調査結果は、極めて貴重な研究資料となりうる。
