| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究は、オランダ国立中央文書館所蔵「日本商館文書」のうち1843年から1860年の文書を対象とし、
①各年の受発信文書簿に含まれる書翰・決議抜粋・翻訳命令書・注文等について、一点毎の目録情報をデータベース化し、国内外に公開すること
②受発信文書を中心に、当該期の出島で作成され残された諸文書・帳簿類の書式・性格・相互関係とその変化について、史料学的検討を行なうこと
③各国代表との通信関係、出島担当役人との通信、日本側の労働力・物資供給者との関係を中心に、開港期の出島をめぐる人的・社会的関係、出島の運営と機能の変化を考察すること、の３点により、開港期の国際的状況の変化の中での出島商館の変容を分析する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this research project, which is part of a wider study on the structure of the documents concerning the relationship between Japan and the Netherlands, compiled and preserved in the Dutch factory at Deshima in Nagasaki and now held in the National Archives in the Hague, we are focusing on the correspondence between 1843 and 1860. This period also coincides with the so-called kaikoku (the opening of Japan).Through this project, metadata of all the documents included in the register-books of the incoming letters (17 volumes) and of drafts of the outgoing letters (17 volumes) have been added to the Catalogue database of holding materials (Hi-CAT), which can be viewed on the website of the Historigoraphical Institute, University of Tokyo.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究によって入力したデータについては、史料編纂所の所蔵史料目録データベースに、フィルム毎の内容細目として付加し、インターネット公開した。これにより、当該期の出島商館をめぐる情報の流れに関する基本史料の検索が容易になり、今後の研究の進展に資するものと考える。
