| Outline of Research at the Start |
大学院博士課程修了者の就業状況については、近年、「ポスドク問題（若手研究者問題）」としてマスコミ等で社会問題化されているものの、大学院重点化政策が開始される1990年代までは博士課程在学者数が3万人未満にとどまり、対象者へのアプローチが困難であったことも影響し、未解明な部分が多い。
そこで本研究では、インターネットによる調査票調査から収集された調査データを用いた計量分析（定量的手法）とインタビュー調査（定性的手法）を組み合わせた実証分析を行うことで、博士人材のキャリアパスの実態を多角的に捉えることを試みる。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study is to clarify the career paths of doctoral course graduates in Japan society from multiple perspectives. In this study, we analyzed online questionnaire survey data. In addition, we conducted the interviews with the person who had completed the doctoral course in humanities and social sciences working in the private sector. As a result of quantitative analysis using online survey data sets, we could not confirm that doctoral course graduates receive excessive cold shoulder in the labor market. Also, our analysis of the interview survey revealed that generic skills acquired experientially in graduate school are utilized and evaluated in the workplace.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
これまで研究対象として、ほぼ見過ごされてきた大学院博士課程修了者に着目し、実証的調査研究によって彼ら・彼女たちのキャリア形成の実像をとらえることができた点に、本研究の学術的意義が存在する。特に、理工系と比べて注目されることの少なかった人文社会系博士課程修了者の民間企業での職業生活を明らかにしたことは本研究の重要な成果である。
さらに、本研究の取り組み、すなわち、人文社会系を含めた大学院博士課程修了者のキャリア形成を実証的に把握することは、高等教育政策を企画立案する際の基礎的なデータとしての利用が期待され、この点において社会的意義があるだろう。
