Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、アブラナ科植物の花粉・柱頭認識、情報伝達系の解明の足がかりとして、自家和合性(Self-compatibility; SC)変異体の原因遺伝子を解析する。また、既にこれまで全く報告されていない新規な不和合性現象を見出しており、この遺伝分析を行う。自家不和合性を支配するS遺伝子座の影響では説明できないこの現象の解析を通して、花粉・柱頭認識に関わる新規な要因の単離同定を目指す。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study aimed to elucidate the incompatibility mechanism during pollination in Brassica rapa by explaining the causal genes from self-compatible mutants and genetically characterizing a novel unilateral incompatibility (UI) phenomenon. Mapping of two different self-compatible mutant lines revealed the presence of causal factors on chromosomes 7 and 10 of Brassica rapa, respectively. Genetic analysis of male and female parents showing a novel UI revealed that the regulating genes locate at the previously reported unilaterally incompatibility locus. This result suggests complex incompatibility recognition may be established by sequence polymorphisms of the UI-regulating genes.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

自家和合性変異体の解析より明らかになった遺伝子座はいずれも新規因子と考えられた。また、一側性不和合性制御遺伝子の多型により新規な組み合わせでの不和合性現象が生じることが予測され、今後特定の組合せで受粉時不和合性を生み出すことができるようになるかもしれない。これら技術は、ハクサイ・カブ等アブラナ科野菜のF1採種効率を上げることに貢献すると考えられる。以上より、今後のアブラナ科植物受粉時不和合性研究において極めて重要な進展を遂げることができた。
