Outline of Research at the Start

頭頚部がんの治療方針の決定には画像を用いた検査が不可欠だが、従来のCTやMRIといった検査は解剖学的情報しか得られず、がんの性質の正確な評価や治療効果の判定がしばしば困難であった。
近年開発されたPET/MR装置はFDG-PETによる糖の代謝情報とMRによる詳細な解剖学的情報および様々な機能画像を同時に取得可能な新しいマルチ分子イメージング装置である。
本研究ではPET/MR装置による複数の代謝・機能画像を組み合わせたマルチパラメトリックイメージング手法を確立し、頭頚部がんの悪性度評価および治療効果の判定や予測に応用することを目指す。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

We conducted a study using a PET/MR system, which combines two imaging modalities - positron emission tomography (PET) with fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MR) - with the aim of improving diagnostic accuracy, assessing treatment response, and predicting prognosis for malignant tumors in the head and neck region.
By combining the two functional imaging modalities, the usefulness for evaluating tumor malignancy and assessing treatment response was observed.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

PET/MR装置を用いて複数の機能画像を組み合わせることで、従来の形態的評価を中心とした画像診断では困難であった頭頸部悪性腫瘍の悪性度評価や治療効果判定をより正確に行うことが可能になった。これにより、治療成績の向上や予後の改善につながることが期待される。また、同様の手法は他部位の悪性腫瘍にも応用可能であり、今後の発展が期待される。
