| Outline of Research at the Start |
2018年に成立した改正健康増進法、東京都受動喫煙防止条例では、飲食店等に加熱式タバコ専用室を設置すれば飲食しながらの使用が容認された。そのため、そのような飲食店で働く従業員への受動喫煙による健康影響が懸念される。
本研究の目的は、①加熱式タバコによる室内空気の汚染（受動喫煙）の証明、②汚染物質の種類と濃度を明らかにすることである。
その結果をもとに、室内での使用を禁止する社会規範の醸成と法・条例の整備に繋げ、加熱式タバコの受動喫煙による非喫煙者の健康影響を防止すること、加熱式を含むタバコ製品を使用できない場所を増やすことでタバコ離れを促進させることを最終的な目的としている。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In order to assess the secondhand exposure of heated-tobacco products, real-time monitoring of total volatile organic compounds was carried out. High concentration of gaseous material was detected inside of the designated room for heated-tobacco products and non-smoking area was also contaminated by the leakage of gaseous material.
This results were published in scientific journals, occupational health books, leaflets, newspapers.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
令和元年の国民健康・栄養調査で、20歳から40歳の喫煙者の約半数が加熱式タバコを使用していることが報告された。加熱式タバコから発生するエアロゾルはグリセロール（独：グリセリン）やプロピレングリコールの液体の微小粒子であるため室温で揮発してガス状物質に変化して数秒で視認できなくなること、「周囲の空気を汚さないので室内で使用出来る」という広告を鵜呑みにして非喫煙者が居る室内でも使用する者が多い。
「加熱式タバコからもガス状物質による二次曝露（受動喫煙）が発生」「非喫煙者がいる室内では使用不可」という情報発信をすることで加熱式タバコを含む喫煙者を減らし、喫煙関連疾患を減らす効果が期待できる。
