Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Through an art direction methodology that Tanaka, in collaboration with the research members, an experimental physicist Kose, and sound designers Dinulovic and Bruckmayr have developed the detection system and sound system that enable humans to experience "the sounds of the universe" through capturing cosmic muons. This fundamental system would help further research to develop a new type of instrument using particles as well as to explore new aesthetics, which is hidden within the universe, from an integrated perspective of particle physics, music and art. As artistic practice, we presented our research as a sound installation at Ars Electronica Festival 2019 in Linz, Austria, and as an artistic performance at Connected Ink 2021 in Tokyo. As a result, we received an Art Renaissance Award from Tokyo University of the Arts in March 2022.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
