オスロ・プロセスが停滞して以降、現在に至るまでの期間は、ハマースの動向に注目すると以下の3つの時期に区分することができる。第一期が2001年から2005年まで、第二期が2006年から2010年まで、第三期が2011年以降である。本研究の対象期間は、第三期に該当するものである。
本研究では、2012年以降のパレスチナ情勢を事例として取り上げ、まず、パレスチナ内部の政治情勢および同地域を取り巻く国際関係の推移を時系列で整理する。それを踏まえ、①パレスチナ内部のパワー・バランスにおけるハマースの動き、②ハマースと近隣中東諸国との関係、という2つの側面について同時並行的に分析していく。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research focused on the behavior of the "Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas)" and aimed to elucidate its determinants in two aspects: Palestinian internal politics and external relations surrounding Hamas since 2012 after Hamas worsened its relations with Middle Eastern countries such as Syria and Iran due to the "Arab Spring." The results of this analysis suggest that Hamas' flexibility in trying to establish friendly relations with as many countries as possible has been a defining factor in its behavior, and this has also been applied to its relations with Fatah, with which it has been at odds in its internal affairs. In addition, Hamas was also willing to adjust the leadership structure within the organization to maintain it.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究の学術的意義としては、非国家主体の行動が国家の安全に直結する今日の国際社会において、何が非国家主体の行動を規定しているのかを解明する点にあると言える。ハマースのような非国家主体にとっては、支援提供国との良好な関係の維持が必要不可欠である。ハマースには、そのために組織内の指導者体制を整えるという動きもみられた。
2023年10月7日にハマースによるイスラエル襲撃事件が発生して以降、本研究の社会的意義も高まったと言える。ハマースの行動原理の解明がパレスチナ問題の解決との関係でも求められるようになっているからである。本研究は、そうした要請に真正面から応え得るものである。
