これまでに、さまざまな研究分野において剣道を対象とした研究は数多くなされてきた。近年では、スポーツバイオメカニクスの研究手法を用いて剣道の打撃動作の特徴を明らかにしている研究も増えてきた。しかしながら、剣道界において最高段位となる八段の剣道競技者を対象とした研究はあまりなされていない。本研究では、八段剣道競技者と七段剣道競技者の面打撃動作を比較することによって、八段剣道競技者における正面打撃動作の特徴の抽出を試みる。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study was conducted to explore the characteristics of the men striking motion from the biomechanical standpoint in eighth-dan kendo players who are at the top of the dan.
This study generated data that indicate the mean and standard deviation of body movements and shinai (sword) motion during the men striking motion, and revealed that the movements of the upper body, left and right elbow/hand, left hip, and left and right knee/ankle were relatively similar among 10 eighth-dan kendo players and these movements are thought to be essentially important. The movements of the shinai, right and left shoulder, and right hip differed substantially between individuals from each coefficient of variance. The time points at which these individual differences appeared began from the moment at which the shinai was swung up to the point when the men was struck.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
剣道の打撃動作を対象にした研究がまだ十分とは言えない中で、本研究では、剣道の最高段位を有する八段剣道競技者を対象に、スポーツバイオメカニクスの分析手法を用いて、正面打撃動作の特徴を明らかにした。特に、本研究の学術的意義は、合格率が極めて低い（１％未満）八段審査を合格してきた八段剣道競技者を対象に正面打撃動作を分析し、その打撃動作を定量化した点である。本研究の結果より、八段剣道競技者に共通する重要度の高い動作が明らかとなった。このことは、今後八段のみならず他の段位を受審するすべての競技者に対して重要な知見になり得ると考えられる。
