| Outline of Research at the Start |
経済新興国インドは、雇用なき発展といわれる現状が指摘される一方で、情報技術を用いた不安定な大量の「雇用」が生み出されている。本研究では配車サービス・アプリによって出現した150万人ともいわれるドライバーに着目し、彼らが、それまで生活をそれまで守っていた様々なトラスト関係（親族、カースト、宗教団体、ユニオンなど）が新しい状況にどう対応し、変化しているのかを明らかにする。刻々と変化する労働者とプラットフォーム技術との関係を追いながら、より人間的な経済関係の可能性を考察する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The main field site for this research has been changed to Malaysia as the planned fieldwork in India could not be carried out due to the spread of COVID-19. This unexpected change revealed that within emerging markets, there are differences that could not be seen in India alone, and thus the research results were significant. In India, we conducted remote interviews with drivers who use ride sharing apps. In Malaysia, we actually used ride sharing apps and were able to conduct direct interviews with drivers. We were also able to ask for a research assistant in the field to continue the interviews, and in 2021 we published our research findings based on the initial interviews as part of a monograph.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
インドとマレーシアという経済新興国の二つを対象とすることで、二国間に大きな違いがあることが分かった。それぞれの国の、配車サービスやタクシー免許などに関する法的制限、労働市場の性格、ドライバーという仕事に対する文化的意味づけなどが明らかになった。日本においても、「プラットフォーム資本主義」というアプリを通じた新しい働き方の問題点が多く指摘されているが、アジアの新興国では、プラットフォームの弱みを巧みに利用し、顧客との新たな信頼関係を構築するなど、ドライバー自身の戦略も見えてきた。本研究は、搾取という側面ばかりが強調されがちなギグ・エコノミーを巡るより広い議論へも貢献することができると考えている。
