Research Abstract |
After the biochemical examination of SDS-insoluble materials of the brains with Alzheimer's disease, we identified human α-Synuclein by cDNA cloning. Later, some missense mutations of the gene of α-Synuclein were found in the cases with familial Parkinson's disease. α-Synuclein turned out to be the major component of Lewy bodies. In the present studies, we identified that α-Synuclein is localized in the inner membrane of neuronal mitochondria.
