| Research Abstract |
The present study investigates the social and physical environmental factors that affect young children’s eating behaviors. The following three issues were mainly investigated: 1) infants as young as 5 months of age exhibit specific behaviors in response to others eating, 2) others’ affective responses to food elicits infants’ responses, which differed between 6 months and 10 months of age, 3) in young children, the amount of food intake and degree of pleasantness were lower during meal time with television viewing than those during meal time without television viewing. These results indicate the need for monitoring the social and physical environments during feeding situations, even those involving very young children.
