Research Abstract |
The purpose of this paper is to show the process in which the five-character poetry developed from anonymous poetry into intellectual literature. This paper will add another viewpoint to the previous studies, by pointing out the fact that there was an exceptional section in the group of ancient poems in the Han Dynasty, regarded as the origin of the five-character poems written by the intellectuals; with this fact as a clue, estimating when and where these ancient poems appeared: and making clear the reason why this form of poetry spread rapidly among the intellectuals.
