Research Abstract |
Decreased susceptibility of endometrial tissue to apoptosis may contribute to the pathogenesis of endometriosis. Endometriotic stromal cells showed resistance to drug-induced apoptosis compared with eutopic endometrial cells. Survivin gene and protein expression was enhanced in endometriotic cells and tissues. Survivin may play a critical role in susceptibility of endometriosis to apoptosis. The data also suggest that survivin inhibitor may be effective as a therapeutic agent for endometriosis.
