Research Abstract |
Analysis of survey data on migrant workers in urban area and rural households in Cambodia revealed that rural-to-urban labor migration, by providing chances to meet with potential mates, increases inter-provincial marriage and hence induces emigration of children, especially of small-scale farmers, as they continue to live in the migration destination or move to spouse's home province. While parents are less likely to give land to children leaving their village, they still pursue equal division of land to their children in principle and therefore subdivision of farmland in rural Cambodia is likely to continue in near future.
