Research Abstract |
Twenty-two healthy non-smokers patients with chronic periodontitis and age- and gender- matched controls were recruited. Plasma levels of Oxidative-INEDX, oxLDL and C-reactive protein were measured at baseline, and at 1 and 2 months after non-surgical periodontal treatment. Periodontitis patients showed higher levels of circulating oxidative stress and oxLDL than healthy subjects. Non-surgical periodontal treatment was effective in decreasing oxLDL, which was positively associated with a reduction in circulating oxidative stress.
