Research Abstract

The popular edition until the Meiji Era of "Makura-no-soshi" was superseded by other text in the 1950s. The present study accomplishes a task of retrieving all the lost annotations for reconstructing 'the history of reception of "Makura-no-soshi"'. In the process, it not only explores the possibility of new interpretations on each scene and chapter of this essay but also clarifies the nature of the problems of studying the age-old classic in the present day.
