Outline of Research at the Start

PFS分光探査による銀河形成と宇宙再電離研究のため、一様なターゲット選択と星質量推定に必須の近赤外線画像をCFHT望遠鏡観測で準備し, 2022年からのPFS分光探査を実現する。これにより、赤方偏移0.7-7の30万個の銀河スペクトルを取得し、銀河間物質(IGM)の中性水素(HI)ガス分布を描く新しい手法も駆使しながら宇宙大規模構造の中で放射と物質交換を通して形成される銀河の描像を探る。特に、宇宙再電離期の電離泡の存在の有無、銀河間のガスのフィラメントが普遍的存在する銀河形成の検証、星形成フィードバックの原因を探る。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

すばる広視野分光器PFSにより、従来のすばる広視野撮像装置HSCの探査だけでは実現できない研究を推進する。まず、PFS分光の一様なターゲット選択と星質量推定に必須の近赤外線画像をCFHT望遠鏡観測を通じて準備し,PFS分光探査を実現する。PFS分光で赤方偏移0.7-7の30万個の銀河スペクトルを取得し、銀河間物質(IGM)の中性水素(HI)ガス分布を描く新しい手法も駆使しながら宇宙大規模構造の中で放射と物質交換を通して形成される銀河の描像を探る。具体的にはA)宇宙再電離の理論的基礎となるHIガスの大規模構造とその中の電離泡の存在の有無の検証、B)銀河間のガスのフィラメントが普遍的にあって銀河同士を繋ぐ描像の検証、C)3次元銀河分布に基づく星形成フィードバック要因に対する強い制限、を観測と理論の両面から行う。この研究を実現するため、令和5年度は、測光データから天体を選択して作られた銀河サンプルについて査読論文にまとめて投稿し、出版した。さらに、この銀河サンプルからPFS観測のターゲットの順位付けを行うなど、PFS観測戦略の検討を進めた。特に、PFSの2400本の分光ファイバーに対して、本研究とそれ以外の研究の天体を共存させた形で観測するため、雇用中の特任研究員を通じてプリンストン大学における国際共同研究者らと協力して行った。これらの観測研究と並行して、銀河-銀河間物質モデルおよび宇宙再電離モデルの構築を進め、PFS観測開始に向けた準備を進めてきた。

Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

昨年度は、銀河カタログ作成時の誤天体除去において、機械学習による手法が予想通りの性能が出ないことが分かり、目視で誤天体除去を行うことで、予定通りに進められない部分があり、数ヶ月の遅れが出ていた。しかしながら、その後は、特任研究員を中心とした研究者の努力で遅れを取り戻すことができ、おおむね順調に研究を進めることができているため。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

令和6年度には、PFS観測に向けた準備を完了させ、観測を開始する予定である。ただし、令和5年末から約半年間すばる望遠鏡が主鏡のトラブルにより観測が中断された影響で、PFS観測の開始も遅れることになる。そのため、データ取得は当初よりも遅れる恐れが出てきているが、用いるデータを減らすなどして対応し、本研究を完了させる計画である。
