Outline of Research at the Start

近年、日本周辺において津波即時予測システムの構築が進められているが、これはプレート境界型逆断層地震を対象としており、アウターライズ正断層地震に関しては、その発生場所、断層メカニズムがプレート境界型地震と異なるにもかかわらず、断層情報が極端に少ないため津波即時予測の精度検証が不十分である。そこで本研究では、千島海溝アウターライズ津波に対応した即時予測手法の確立のため、震源断層マッピングと、それらの情報を用いてアウターライズ地震による津波波形評価を行う。また、得られた成果は津波予測システムへの実装試験を行うとともに、自治体関係者に周知・公開に努める

Outline of Final Research Achievements

In recent years, tsunami observation networks have been developed and tsunami warning systems have been improved. However, these systems have been mainly limited to plate-boundary megathrust earthquakes, and the accuracy of tsunami prediction for outer-rise normal fault earthquakes, for which fault information is scarce, has not been verified sufficiently. In this study, we clarified the source fault distribution and fault parameters based on observation data for the offshore area of the Kuril Trench, and evaluated tsunami waveforms based on this information, taking into account complex tsunami physics. As a result, we mapped 17 possible source faults and evaluated tsunamis using the fault information. The largest fault is 260 km long (M8.4), and the maximum tsunami height on the eastern coast of Hokkaido was estimated to be about 9 m around 144.8°E and 143°E.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

これまでアウターライズ地震震源断層の情報がほとんどなかった千島海溝沖において、地下構造探査、海底地形、地震観測データに基づく現実的なアウターライズ震源断層マップが構築され、その情報を用いて、アウターライズ地震による北海道沿岸域における津波高の評価を行った。これらの成果は北海道自治体等と共有し地元の防災対策検討に貢献した。
アウターライズ断層はプレート沈み込み伴うプレート変形(折れ曲がり)によって成長すると考えられており、本研究によって得られた断層形状・分布の知見はプレート変形プロセス、それに伴う流体移動を理解するうえで学術的にも新たな知見を提供した。
