Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
This study established a birth cohort in Kwale County, Kenya, to identify factors associated with stunting in early childhood. A total of 806 mother and child pairs were enrolled and followed longitudinally, with a nested case-control design implemented. The stunting rate was 25.9%, and comprehensive data on aflatoxin levels, dietary practices, and socioeconomic conditions were collected. The study also found a significant association between newly defined hypertension criteria and preterm birth. Despite COVID19 related challenges, a local implementation system was successfully established, enabling the collection of high-quality epidemiological data.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
