Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、2次元系において並進対称性を保つ境界条件を持った量子ウォークを、光子を用いた時間発展プロトコルにより実現する。そして、この量子ウォーク系を用いて、これまで実現されてこなかった量子ウォーク型量子探索アルゴリズムを実装、その高速性を実証する。さらに、特異な光・電気応答を示すキラリティーを持った分子や、光合成光捕集系といった重要な分子系の量子シミュレーションを目指す。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we focused on the boundary conditions in quantum walk systems and aimed to realize a quantum walk system with two-dimensional boundary conditions that possess translational symmetry. As a result, we succeeded in generating optical states with special spatial modes and optimizing the efficiency of their generation. Furthermore, we realized the spatial shift operation for the photons in such spatial modes. Additionally, we theoretically proposed and experimentally demonstrated a novel method for analyzing the time evolution of quantum systems, which is useful for the analysis and evaluation of quantum walks using photons.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

従来の量子ウォークの実験的な研究は、その多くで境界条件が考慮されておらず、境界で粒子が失われる吸収境界条件で行われてきた。これは、確率保存が成立しない特殊な系であり、その応用も限られる。本研究で実現した量子ウォークの時間発展は、周期境界条件を実装できるため、多様な応用につながる。例えば、古典系よりも高速な「量子探索」が、2次元の周期境界条件により実現できる。さらに、境界が重要な役割を果たす様々なトポロジカルな現象の探索にもつながる。このように、本研究成果の波及効果により、多岐にわたる学術的・社会的意義が期待できる。
