Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、酸化物系セラミックスの高温変形や接合等に対するDC/AC電流の印加効果を調査し、セラミックスの高温現象に対する通電効果の機構、並びに支配因子を明らかにする。近年、セラミックスの種々の高温現象に対し、通電が顕著な促進効果(フラッシュ現象)を発現することが見出されているが、既存の焼結現象における通電条件下では、現象の進行が極めて急峻で、素過程の追跡と支配因子の特定が困難である。本研究では、フラッシュ現象に伴う変化が緩やかなバルク体を用い、尚且つ、既存研究よりソフトな微弱通電条件下でフラッシュ現象を制御することで、通電効果に関わる諸因子を明確に捉え、支配的な発現機構を明らかにする。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度は、1)パルス通電処理によるセラミックスの低温・高緻密(透明)化と2)通電接合による金属/セラミックス異種接合体の高強度化を目的に実施した。
まず、1)の通電焼結を利用した低温・高緻密(透明)化では、パルス通電焼結(SPS)法の最適化により、(Gd,Lu)3Al5O12:Ce3+蛍光体の低温創製とその特性向上に成功した。具体的には、PL発光特性に及ぼすパルスパターンや還元の影響を調査するために、BN粉末あるいはC紙を離型剤に利用して、(Gd,Lu)3Al5O12:Ce3+セラミックをDCおよび BCモードの電流パルスパターンにおいて焼結処理を実施した。 DCモードでは、BCモードに比べて炭素雰囲気による還元反応がより顕著に起こることが分かった。その結果、DC モードでは 焼結後のアニール処理において、BCモードと比較して酸化プロセスもより顕著に起こった結果、Ce3+の割合が大幅に減少した。本研究では微細構造やCe3+ドーパントの分布よりも、このCe3+割合がそのPL発光特性に影響を与える最も支配的な要因として機能することが分かった。その結果、相対密度に約1.2%のばらつきがあるにもかかわらず、Ce3+の含有率が0.4%増加することで、そのPL発光特性が向上した。2)の通電接合では、金属/セラミックス異種材料の接合に対する有効性は確認されたが、接合界面において一部未接合部が残存しているため、強度評価まで至らなかった。今後、通電効果を活用した接合反応相の制御を確立した上で、接合反応相の生成挙動の評価と機械特性評価を合わせて実施する。

Reason

本研究の目的の一つである金属/セラミックス異種材料の接合に関しては、未接合部が残るなど、当初想定しなかった課題が発生し、強度特性に評価に遅れが生じている。接合体の作成に課題が残るものの、セラミックスの低温・高緻密(透明)化に関しては概ね目的を達していると判断できる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今年度の結果をもとに、次年度も1)パルス通電処理によるセラミックスの低温・高緻密(透明)化と2)通電接合による金属/セラミックス異種接合体の高強度化に関する研究を継続させ、理解の更なる深化を図る。
1)のセラミックスの低温・高緻密(透明)化に関しては、高輝度照明の実現に向けて、高輝度の蛍光体粒子を分散させた透明セラミックスの低温緻密化による高品質化を目指す。優れた発光機能を有する蛍光体粒子を合成しても、発光中に発生する熱によっても蛍光特性の低下するため、機械特性に加え、ヒートシンク機能を備えた熱特性に優れる新たなホスト材の創製を目指す。また、2)金属/セラミックスの通電接合に関しては、接合時に接合界面において一部未接合部が残存しているため、強度評価まで至らなかった。今後、通電効果を活用した接合反応相の制御を確立した上で、接合反応相の生成挙動の評価と機械特性評価を合わせて実施する。
