Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、学習者オートノミー(学習者が自身や学習過程を深く理解し、学びに責任を持つ能力)に特化した大学にて実践されている、ラーニング・コミュニティーズ(LCs)という学習者主導型協働学習の手法を「学生コミュニティーリーダー育成カリキュラム」として開発することを目的とし、1)国内外実践共同体の調査、2)国内教育機関におけるニーズ分析、3)本学における実践研究を行う。英語を学ぶ事自体を目的とせず、 英語を活用し個々の関心分野への知識を深めるという包括的な学びや、互いに学び合い、LCsを運営するという経験は、学生の生涯に通ずる学習とリーダーシップスキルの育成にあたり、その手法の発展と普及を目指す。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of this research was to develop a leadership curriculum and train student leaders who provide autonomous and prosocial learning opportunities for other learners through their learning communities. In the three years, we conducted activities related to 1) autonomy-supportive leadership course implementation and development at the principal researcher’s institution, 2) needs analysis at a Japanese educational institution, and 3) on-site observation of student-led communities at the Federal University of Para in Brazil. This research culminated in the publication of a course book based on the theories and materials developed through the studies 1)-3) above (Watkins & Hooper, 2023).

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

近年、「個別最適な学びと協働的な学びの実現」として、児童を主体とした深い学びや、個々の興味関心の探求と他者との協働を通した、学習者自らが学ぶ力の育成が求められているが(文部科学省,2021)、国内においてそのような教育の例は限られている。本研究では、興味や目標を共有する学習者がコミュニティを運営し、学習言語を活用しながら協働するという、上記教育の実例にあたる学生コミュニティリーダーの育成と、それに伴う理論検討と教材開発を実施した。そのような研究は、言語教育の場に限らず、今後学習者主体、かつより包括的な教育の普及に貢献できるものと考える。
