本研究は、黒海とその周辺を一つの地域ととらえ、従来の研究では個々の問題として主に各国史の文脈で研究がなされてきた、18世紀後半の黒海周辺で生じた様々な人の移動に関する問題を、この地域をめぐる大国間関係をの変容を踏まえながら、相互の関連を意識し、「黒海地域」という枠組の中で考察しようとするものである。西欧・ロシア・オスマンの複数の一次史料を用いて実証的に跡付けつつ、近代移行期の黒海地域の社会変動をマクロな視点で考察する点が本研究の特色である。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In the 18th century, European countries, including the Russian Empire, expanded into the Black Sea region, while the Ottoman Empire retreated from power. Research was conducted into the social changes that occurred in the Black Sea region as a result of these changes in power relations between the great powers, focusing on the issues surrounding the movement of people seen during the same period. Furthermore, the second half of the 18th century was the period of the Russian Empire's expansion into Ukraine and Crimea, when international relations over the modern Black Sea began to take shape. Based on the results of this research, an edited volume was published that takes a historical perspective on the current conflict in Ukraine.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
黒海地域は東洋史と西洋史の狭間にあり、黒海史研究は比較的研究の遅れた分野であるため、本研究には未知の領域を埋める学術的意義があった。同時に、2022年にロシア・ウクライナ戦争が勃発して、日本ではあまりなじみのない黒海地域への注目が集まったが、本研究が対象とする18世紀後半は、ロシア・トルコ・西欧諸国が黒海地域をめぐってせめぎ合うという、現代黒海国際関係の形成期と考えられ、本研究成果は、現代の問題を考察する上で重要な位置を占めている。それ故、本研究成果を踏まえたウクライナ・黒海問題に関する講演や書籍の刊行を行ったことには、社会的意義があったと考えられる。
