Outline of Research at the Start

アメリカに保存されている、「バターン戦」経験者の日本兵たちのオーラルヒストリーと記録文書を用いて「バターン行進」が起こるまでの日本兵側の心情や実情を追い、「バターン死の行進」がどのように起こったのか理由を解明し史的事実を明らかにする。また日本のインターネットを含めた対バターンに関する異議申し立てなどの言説を整理する。さらに、英米の元捕虜・民間人抑留者の団体の会合やイヴェントに参与観察し、個々人にオーラルヒストリー調査を行い、戦後75周年から80周年の間の対日意識の変容と継承を観察し分析する。これらの内容をつきあわせて、相互理解の方法を考案し、相互理解と事実認識に基づいた和解の可能性を探求する。
