| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究は、大学初年次生の文章のどこに問題があるのか、また、なぜ問題が生じるのかを明らかにし、初年次教育の質の向上に貢献することを目指すものである。そのために、文章執筆の過程と文章執筆時の意識に着目する。
大学初年次生に、執筆過程を記録できるシステムで文章を書いてもらい、執筆過程を見ながら自分が書いた文章に関するインタビューに回答してもらう。収集した文章とその執筆過程、インタビューのデータを用いて、執筆という行動の過程と執筆時の意識を関連させた分析を行う。この分析によって、初年次生の文章の特徴と、その特徴が執筆時のどのような意識に起因し、どのような執筆過程を経て生じたのかを明らかにする。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, we analyzed data on the writing process of first-year university students, such as the order in which words were written when writing essays and what students reported in interviews about the essays they had written, to identify issues in their writing. The results showed that while writing, university students were conscious about sentence-final expressions, sentence lengths, connections between successive sentences, the specificity of content, and the cohesiveness of expressions throughout the text. The results further suggest that university students who have issues with written expression might only be conscious of a narrow range of sentences, and indicate that familiarity with the subject does not necessarily make it easier for university students to write on it. Finally, we present suggestions on setting writing assignments in writing and other classes.

本研究課題は、大学初年次生が書いた文章だけでなく、その文章を書く過程を分析対象とすることで、執筆時の意識に着目した点に学術的意義がある。このことによって、大学初年次生の文章に現れる問題がある表現を指摘するだけでなく、どのような経緯でそのような表現が生じるのかということを示した。また、文章の執筆者へのインタビューを合わせて分析することで、執筆者がなぜそのような表現を選んだのかを示したことにも意義がある。本研究課題の成果は、大学に入ったばかりの学生への文章表現指導において必要なことを示した点で、社会的意義があるものと考えられる。
