| Outline of Research at the Start |
糖尿病患者への看護は、日常生活の中での病気の自己管理のための教育的支援が中心となる。これまでに医学・歯学・看護学協働で、糖尿病患者の口腔保健行動をアセスメントする項目を用いた簡便な看護支援プログラムを開発し介入を1年間行った。その結果、看護師による短時間での知識提供や行動の動機付け支援の有用性が示唆された。併せて、糖尿病では炎症が悪化しやすいため、年齢や口腔内の状態等に応じて、抜歯や義歯などの情報も必要であると推察された。
そのため、本研究では先のプログラムを修正し、抜歯や義歯なども含めた知識のエッセンスを分かりやすく伝えることができる教育教材を開発し、これを用いた効果の確認を計画している。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
To provide nurses with the knowledge necessary to help persons with diabetes easily understand how to maintain oral health and support them in putting that knowledge into practice, we developed educational materials titled “Recommendations for Maintaining Oral Health for Persons With Diabetes.”
Specifically, we added items related to the progression of periodontal disease and the need for tooth extraction or dentures to the previously developed assessment items for oral health behaviors. We conducted three surveys with 23 dentists, 17 physicians, and 23 nurses engaged in diabetes care to evaluate the revised educational materials. Based on the feedback, we finalized the materials and distributed them to nearby medical institutions and participants at exchange meetings at the Japan Academy of Diabetes Education and Nursing, where the materials were effectively utilized.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
糖尿病がある方は、歯周病になりやすいが、歯周病をよくすることで、糖尿病への良い効果があることも報告されている。口腔を良い状態に保つためには、自分で歯磨きなどを行うことと、歯科受診により専門家の支援を受けることが必要である。これらの口腔保健指導時の基本事項を踏まえながら、糖尿病がある方が必要としている情報、現場の医師や歯科医師、看護師が必要と考えている情報を学術的な基盤に基づいて、わかりやすく発信することができた。
また、多職種連携での支援に向けて、実臨床の医師や歯科医師、看護師が抱く口腔保健行動の支援への認識や実態についても明らかにすることができた。
