Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
This study investigates efficient transmission and excitation methods for special electromagnetic waves called optical vortices, with the aim of applying them to future plasma heating technologies. To transmit high-frequency electromagnetic waves over long distances, waveguides are effective, and in particular, the “vortex beam,” a higher-order mode, exhibits properties similar to those of optical vortices. In this study, we calculated the coupling efficiency between electromagnetic waves in free space and waveguide modes and clarified their characteristics depending on the incident angle. Based on these results, we proposed a new method for exciting optical vortices using waveguides and demonstrated its effectiveness through simulations.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
