Outline of Research at the Start

レベル3以下の自動運転機能を有する車両は今後急速に普及が進むことが予想される。しかし,レベル1~3の自動運転システムの性能が向上すればするほど,ドライバの運転機会が減少することによる運転技能の低下だけでなく,システムに対する過信が生じることで,システムの機能失陥時に,ドライバが対応できない状況が起こりうる。
本研究では,レベル1~3の自動運転システムに対して,ドライバの過信を抑制するHMIを構築することを目的とする。運転自動化システムに対する過信の定義,又は過信の発生条件と発生過程を解明するうえで,過信抑制HMIの構築を行い,被験者実験を用いて,提案手法を検証する

Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study aims to better understand how people build trust in automated driving systems. Based on this understanding, this study develops a human-machine interface (HMI) to help prevent overtrust in Level 1 to Level 3 driving automation systems (DAS).
First, this study used a causal discovery method to explore how people come to trust automated vehicles. It found that accurate awareness of the vehicle's situation is important for proper trust.
Next, this study focused on the problem of overtrust in Level 3 DAS. It designed and experimentally evaluated an HMI equipped with educational functions. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed RtI HMI supports drivers in learning about the causes of requests to intervene (RtI) and the operational design domain (ODD) of the DAS during use, and that it is effective in preventing drivers' overtrust in the DAS.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究は,自動運転車両に対する人間の信頼形成プロセスを因果探索手法により明らかにしたことで,交通心理学や知能交通システム分野に新たな知見を提供するものである.特に,レベル3の自動運転車両における過信を抑制するための教育的HMIの有効性を実証的に示したことは,今後の自動運転車両の設計や運用方針に大きな貢献を与える.
近未来,自動運転車両の普及に伴い,本研究ではドライバの過信による事故リスク軽減に貢献するものである.教育的機能を持つHMIの導入により,ドライバが自動運転システムを利用しながら,その限界を理解し,適切な介入判断ができるようになることで,安全性の向上と社会的受容の促進が期待される.
