Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では,次世代計算機の研究開発を支援することを目的として,整数演算のみを用いた解析の実現性に関する研究開発を行う.具体的に,様々なものづくりやICTにおいて必要となる線形ソルバ,ステンシル計算を対象として,これらの整数演算実装を研究する.代表的な線形ソルバであるクリロフ部分空間反復法を対象として,反復改良法を援用することで,従来の浮動小数点数に基づく解析と同程度の精度を整数演算(固定小数点数演算)により実現する方策を研究する.また,反復型ステンシル計算の整数演算による実装についても研究を行う.

Outline of Final Research Achievements

We developed an implementation method for major components such as sparse matrix-vector multiplication, inner products, and vector operations, in which integer arithmetic is mainly used. Based on this method, we successfully developed an integer-arithmetic-based multigrid preconditioned GMRES method. The research results were accepted in a top journal (ACM TOMS).
Furthermore, we investigated the integer-arithmetic-based implementation for the FDTD method. We developed a new implementation approach in which the analyzed domain is divided into multiple subdomains, with a different scaling factor applied to each subdomain.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

現在、浮動小数点数演算よりも整数演算に対してより高速な処理を行うことができるプロセッサが登場している。このような背景の下、本課題では、線形ソルバを対象に、整数演算命令を使って、従来の倍精度浮動小数点数演算と同精度の求解を行う技術を新たに考案した。本技術を利用して、構造解析、電磁場解析、流体解析といった多様な解析の高速化を実現することが可能であり、本課題の社会的意義は非常に大きい。また、本研究の成果は数値計算ライブラリに関するトップ雑誌に報告されており、国際的にも注目される研究成果となっている。
