本研究は、戦時下の文学に目を向け、言論統制を主とする社会的な圧力と文学との関係を、〈新たな表現方法の創出〉という視点から明らかにしようとするものである。
作家が言論統制下で作品を書くとき、その不自由さに抗するためにどのような表現方法を開発していったのか。この視点から作品を読解することで、〈新たな表現方法の創出〉の側面を見出すことが可能になる。本研究では、戦時下でも一定数の作品を発表し続けた太宰治の作品を軸に、言論統制を潜り抜ける方法論と、そうした作品を通じてどのようなメッセージを発しようとしていたのかを検討していく。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The characteristics of Osamu Dazai's mid-career works include the extensive use of animal metaphors and first-person narratives from female perspectives. These elements are scarcely found in his early works but become more prevalent in his mid-career. While this study aimed to explore the relationship between censorship and literary expression, it surfaced the possibility that animals and women were employed in his works to express alienation from the wartime regime, while avoiding punitive measures from censorship. By utilizing animals and women, it is speculated that Dazai's mid-career works addressed the issue of alienation, particularly stemming from conscription during wartime. This investigation delved into a nuanced interpretation of his works, diverging from a simplistic stance of either endorsing or opposing war.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
戦時下の文学作品は戦争への賛否以外にどのような視点で読むことができるのか、そのことを考えるために言論統制が生み出す文学表現について追及した。太宰治の作品からは、戦時体制からの疎外を語る作品の様相を見てとることができる。これには戦争への批判の側面と、戦時体制への協力を兵士とは異なる形で行いたいという願望の表れの面とがある。この両極が同時に存在する視点は学界に提示する意義のあるものと考える。また、こうした作品を戦時下で発表する作家の行動からは、国家体制と国民との関係についての問いかけを得ることができるだろう。
