| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究は、ますます強大化している企業の権力に民主的正統性を備えさせる方策を示すべく、市民が企業権力を統御するために利用可能な諸手段を明らかにしようとする。すなわち、企業の意思決定から影響を受ける組織内外のステークホルダー（利害関係主体）が当の決定過程に影響力を行使しうる制度的条件を、規範的なデモクラシー理論の知見、とりわけ共和主義的な職場デモクラシー論とジョン・ロールズ以降の財産所有デモクラシー論に基づきつつ検討する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, I examined the normative political theories of workplace democracy and property-owning democracy in order to clarify the conditions under which corporate power can be legitimate. As a result, first, I defended the idea of democratic corporate governance based on the participation and deliberation of various stakeholders, not limited to shareholders and workers. Second, I reinterpreted property-owning democracy as a political and economic system that facilitates stakeholder control of corporations through the diffusion of wealth and power.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は、これまで希少であった企業の政治学的研究として先端的な成果を示しており、「企業の政治理論」という新たな研究テーマの確立を促しうる。また、経済格差の拡大をもたらしてきたビジネス主体の権力に注目する経済学の議論や、ガバナンスに参与する企業の公共的な性格を強調する経営学の議論などを、政治学と接続する役割も果たしている。グローバル資本主義の下で一部の企業が国家に比肩する影響力を持つようになった現代において、本研究が示した民主的企業統治の構想は、社会内の公論にも資するはずである。
