これまでこの研究を進めていたPHENIX実験では、粒子の集団運動の強さのラピディティ依存性からMPIを示唆する可能性のある結果が得られたが、中心ラピディティで検出器のアクセプタンスに偏りがあることによるバイアスが含まれていることがわかってきた。2023年から始まるsPHENIX実験では検出器が大幅にアップグレードされ、アクセプタンスの偏りがなくなるため、中心ラピディティでより精密に測定が可能になり、現在注目しているラピディティ依存性について詳しく測定できる。これにより、MPIに相当する現象の有無を確認する。
